Generally speaking February can be a quiet month for birding. Winter birds are starting to drift north and apart from Black Kite, Great-spotted Cuckoo, Swallow, House Martin and Lesser Kestrel, we await the arrival of our summer visitors. It can be a challenging month for us birders. Of course our resident birds help fill our daily bird lists during our excursions.
Yet the month has produced some notable birds and added icing to the cake for our efforts. It has been a great year so far for a few rarities and the most recent have been Allen’s Gallinule and Isabelline Shrike. A big thank you to our rarity specialist photographer Ricky Owen for letting us use his amazing photos.
