IMPORTANT INVESTMENT BY THE BOARD IN VEJER TO RECOVER THE LAGOON AND MARSHES OF THE RIVER BETWEEN VEJER AND BARBATE. The Junta de Andalucía, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, is to promote the Integrated Territorial Investment (ITI) project on the enhancement of the Barbate river marshes between the municipality and that of Vejer to promote ornithological tourism.
The territorial delegate for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Daniel Sánchez, together with the mayor of Vejer, José Ortiz, have presented this interesting project.
The action has an estimated budget of 1.15 million euros and is expected to include a walkway that facilitates access from the residential areas to the marshland areas, for pedestrian, cycling or equestrian uses.
The recovery of the marsh lagoon with an area of 90 hectares will be carried out. This area will be flooded in winter and autumn, but not in summer.
This will enable numerous birds to be attracted to the area, which is why the construction of 5 bird watching points has also been included.
In front of the Soto and La Angostura, a pedestrian walkway will be built over the Barbate River linking this area with the marshes.
The project will include improvements in an approximate area of more than 80 hectares of lagoons and more than 9 kilometers of roads, and which will include more than 3 kilometers of new trail, including bird watching observation points.
“We already said it, if other administrations with relevant powers such as the Board join the efforts we make from the City Council, Vejer will advance even more,” says the mayor, José Ortiz “This project will allow a better observation of the birdlife in the environment and the enjoyment of the natural park and the development of activities, in addition to facilitating healthy practices, increasing safety and generating advantages for sectors such as tourism or sports”.
The Agriculture delegate added that “this path will connect with another route that is being drawn up and begins in La Barca de Vejer and that will reach the Los Alcornocales Natural Park, where an initiative is planned to convert a section of the Barbate river into zone.
