Event: ABS field meeting for July 2021 at Trebujena and the surrounding area

Date: 17th July 2021

Meeting Point: Bar Angela at the exit of the town Trebujena.

Time: 09.30

Leader for the day: Frank Hair

Information about the meeting:
With this meeting I intend to drive through the grape fields looking for the elusive Rufous Bush Robin, until we arrive at the parking area next to the driveway to the venta Manegodor.  Where we can park the cars and watch the birds on and around the new reserve which has been built there.  After this we will drive to the brazo de esta area along the Rio Guadalquivir.  At this time of the year it will be very hot so lots of water will be needed along with the suitable clothing.  The track along the Rio Guadalquivir is not in too good a condition but it is passable with care it has been done in a Ford focus.

Accommodation in the area:
Check the ABS web site for the affiliated members offering accommodation in the area there are a few. Details about the accommodation offered by our Affiliated Members in this area can be found by using the following link https://www.andaluciabirdsociety.org/affiliated-services/accommodation-by-province/cadiz.html

Clothing and food:
It will be hot at this time of the year so plenty of water will be needed and suitable clothing along with sunscreen and hats.  I will be bringing a packed lunch and recommend this to members as this is in the middle of the campo with the only ventas in the surrounding towns, which are far away.

Possible birds:
At this time of the year there are plenty of birds around the reserve, including, Rufous Bush Robin, Collared Pratincole, Little Ringed Plover, Kentish Plover, Little Turne, Avocet, Black-winged Stilt, Purple Swamphen, Common and Green Sandpiper, Coot, Moorhen, Griffon Vulture, Osprey, Spanish Imperial Eagle, Booted Eagle, Short-toed Eagle, Black Kites, Marsh Harrier plus White storks who build spectacular nests on some of the older buildings along the river.

Other sites in the area for those staying overnight.
Information about all these bird sites can be found on the Society’s web site https://www.andaluciabirdsociety.org/bird-sites/cadiz.html

Note 1: This is an amazing part of Andalucía and the area is full of sites for watching birds all along the Rio Guadalquivir.

Note 2:
1. We will ask a member to write a trip report for our experiences of the day.
2. Members can invite guests, but they must join the Society on the day for insurance purposes.
