Location
Venta la Laga

Leader for the day: Frank Hair
Meeting point: Venta La Laja
Information about the meeting:
We will be heading into the sierra de las Nieves south of Ronda following the track which leads all the way to the top of the sierras where we can see all the way to Gibraltar. There are several different habitats on this track, each with its own set of birds.
Accommodation in the area:
Check the ABS web site for affiliated members in this area.
Clothing:
It is late autumn and in the Sierra, we can have a warm day or a cold day. So warm clothing is recommended for the first hours and keep an eye on the weather in case it rains.
Food:
As there is less light and the days are shorter, I think it is preferable to have a picnic lunch, in order not to waste time in a restaurant. However, there is the possibility of stopping at a venta or restaurant.
Possible birds:
Griffon Vulture, Red-billed Chough, Black Wheatear, Crested Lark, Thekla’s Lark, Blue Rock Thrush, Common Kestrel, Bonelli’s Eagle, Song Thrush, European Stonechat, Hawfinch and possible Common Crossbill.
Notes:
1. We will ask a member to write a trip report for our experiences of the day.
2. Members can invite guests, but they must join the Society on the day for insurance purposes.
3. We will ask members in attendance to drop a voluntary micro-contribution in a collection box to help support a nominated ABS conservation project.
If you would like to help us in funding the many conservation projects we support please donate via this link here.
