The ABS will be participating in Global Big Day 2023!
Taking part in Global Big Day means that essential data about birds across the world is gathered for research through the Cornell Lab eBird. Be a part of the Andalucia Bird Society´s team and help celebrate World Migratory Bird Day with us!
Global Big Day is an annual celebration of the birds and this year we have chosen the Barbate Marshes and La Janda as great locations to bring together the special ABS community spirit. Offering birdwatchers and photographers alike the possibility to share their sightings with the birding community across the world from a familiar patch.
Meeting Point: Apollo XI Restaurant – Tahivilla
Start time: 9:00 a.m.
Team Captain: Peter Jones (President)
Field Guide: Frank Hair (Field Meeting Officer)
Accommodation in the area:
Several hotels in the area are ABS members and willing to give a discount of 10% on showing your ABS membership card. See the list on our webpage
Clothing and food:
Expect warm weather. Drink plenty of fluids even if you don’t feel thirsty. Wear loose, lightweight clothing, a hat and sunscreen.
The ABS team Captain will submit the event sightings and images to the US based citizen science gathering tool eBird; part of Cornell University, to be included in our initial results announcement.
The data collected from this event will be added to a set of figures gathered from other parts of Spain – verified by their system. The final results will be published on Facebook together with the sum of money raised by our team entry.
Notes:
1. We will ask a member to write a trip report for our experiences of the day.
2. Members can invite guests, but they must join the Society as FULL MEMBERS for insurance purposes.
3. We will ask members in attendance for a €5,00 entry fee which will go towards the nominated ABS conservation project.
If you would like to help us in funding the many conservation projects we support please donate via this link here.
