Information about the event

The municipality of Los Barrios is home to more than 80 nesting pairs of Lesser Kestrels, it is a conservation success story attained exclusively through environmental volunteering on the part of “Tumbabuey Grupo de Anillamiento” (Tumbabuey) and partly supported by a donation of some 500,00€, cash kindly donated by members and supporters of the Andalucia Bird Society.

Morning itinerary: 9.30am, breakfast in the Casino Café Bar.
Followed by a guided tour, allowing those present, the privilege to observe Lesser Kestrels in the urban environment of Los Barrios, accompanied by a conservation expert from the Tumbabuey Project; with an aim to learn more about the most important colony in Andalusia and plans for their preservation.

Lunch: 1pm lunch at the Casino Café Bar.
The evolution of the colony has been tremendous, at present there are 53 nest boxes available, with an impressive 49 occupied.

Afternoon: 3pm, the group will be guided to the outskirts of the Parish. An opportunity for both birdwatchers and photographers alike to observe the Lesser Kestrels in the wild. This will present an ideal opportunity to discover the bandwidth of other species found in their natural hunting grounds.
