We are proud, as a Society, to be once again supporting Global Birding for their upcoming ‘Global Bird Weekend’. The event for 2021 is in support of Birdlife International’s appeal for their project to protect wetlands and migratory birds, an extremely important conservation project for us all.
We have registered our participation as ABS Team on eBird, see here and hope our members will join on us the Saturday 9th October, please lookout for more news on our social media pages and an upcoming newsletter for further details.
Global Birding is the brainchild of our very own Patron Tim Appleton and together with Penny (Tim’s partner) they are working tirelessly to involve bird lovers throughout the birding world, attracting teams from many countries and bringing us all together for a spectacular birding day in October.
Please do help us support this great event. See the message below received from Global Birding in acknowledgement of our registration for this event and it will give you more details of the itinerary for a wonderful weekend of activities.
Dear Global Bird Weekend ABS Team
Firstly, thank you so much for registering your team to take part in Global Bird Weekend 8,9 and 10 October 2021.
Your support is incredible and we are looking forward to another fantastic event across the globe.
We love people getting involved in the whole of the weekend.
A few reminders:
Friday 8 October
Swarovski Optik will be hosting a Birding Live on Location session on Facebook. Details to follow.
We would love younger people to get involved for Global Bird Weekend.
Let us know if you, or anyone you know, would be interested in getting involved in visiting a local school, college or university on Friday 8 October to encourage younger generations to appreciate their local natural environments and increase awareness of the birds around them. They might join your team!
Saturday 9 October
Remember, double check all the eBird Team information on our website if you have any queries before the Big Day and be sure your team members submit their sightings as soon as possible during the event.
You can check results for the eBird and Cornell University October Big Day.
Sunday 10 October
If you have any plans for sharing your passion for birds on Sunday, such as taking a group out for a guided walk in your area or sharing your photography or other creative skills, that would be incredible.
Photos and videos shared prior to and during the event make the Global Birding community spirit really come alive.
Whatever you do, please remember to share your experiences on social media using #globalbirdweekend and #birdsuniteourworld.
You can find us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
Finally, if you are able, please find the time to create your team’s JustGiving page to help support the BirdLife International project we are supporting for this event – Conserve Coastal Wetlands, Save Threatened Migratory Birds. If you are unable to create a page, any donations can be made directly to the event appeal page.
Please adhere to any continuing local restrictions in your area and bird mindfully at all times, respecting the environment and fellow citizens.
Keep checking our Global Birding website and social media for updates.
If you have any questions, please contact us at info@globalbirding.org.
Once again, thank you for your support.
Let’s go Birding Together for Conservation as Birds Unite Our World.
All the best
