 High altitude birding! Our December field meeting, well more like a relaxed jaunt in the high mountains, visited the Sierra de Grazalema. So near to the festive holidays, but not so near as to interfere with our member’s plans for Christmas, we were led through wonderfully scenic routes by our Chairman Peter Jones. It was another huge success and a well attended meeting by our members. Our happy band of birders braved chill winds in the high mountain passes, ate homemade mince pies, laughed a lot and had a great time discovering wintering species of the area such as Ring Ouzel, Alpine Accentor and more besides….

 Bird watching in Morocco. A winter’s birding tour in Morocco, the society’s first overseas tour! With 15 members, we toured the marshland habitats of the northwestern Atlantic coast of Morocco and sampled not only the varied birdlife of Morocco, but also to some extent gave ourselves a taste of this wonderful country. We were based in Asilah and made excursions to the Oued Tahadart flood plains, the lower Loukos marshes near Larache and ventured south to Moulay Bousselham and the large marsh and lagoon of Merja Zerga. A very successful and enjoyable tour.

Majorca – Extremadura – Doñana – Ronda – Granada
Day 1 - 5th April 2008.
Salinas de Levante, Colonia San Jordi and Salinas Colonia San Jordi.
Weather: Bright and sunny but windy later.
After a swift and eventless pick up at Palma airport the five of us headed out south west via Campos to Salinas de Levante, an area of working and disused saltpans. We first parked just off the main road to Colonia San Jordi
