August 25th and 26th 2012

Llanos de Libar - Serrania de Ronda

Session start times are 7 am on each date.

I am intending to be continuing with an on going study into migrant passerines with an emphasis on the group of warblers 'Sylvia' during the last weekend in August. As we have no official field meeting for this month and seeing how so many enjoyed the session last year, I thought it might interest some of our members?

If members would like to attend one or both of the above dates, please post here.

Hi Peter
Sorry for the short reply last time but I was having problems posting long posts.  I will be there as this was a good weekend last time.  I hope we get better whether than last time then we can ring on both days.

Hi All

I am investigating a couple of other sites where it might be easier for people to attend this ringing weekend. The Libar track is really not in a good condition and without a 4x4 it would be difficult for people to reach safely. I am watching a couple of sites, one on the Rio Guadiaro and another near to Monte Corto, both on level ground and with good access, they both have water and good numbers of birds, though different species to Libar.

Please keep an eye on this post for more details. Final decision should be made one week in advance.

Peter

Expecting to be present for the Saturday.  Will I need the 4 x 4 or will the "normal" car manage to locate the roads/tracks to the ringing site please?

I'm actually looking to change the site (see previous post) for precisely the reason of your concern Bob. Give me until the weekend as need to be certain of my choice for a site which all cars/people can reach with ease. Also nearer a cheap and good place for lunch!!!

Still an equal choice between Rio Guadiaro and Monte Corto.... watch this space.

The meeting/s will be on the Rio Guadiaro. Take the Ronda to Benaojan road as you pass through a small hamlet the road bends to the left and just before the bridge over the river take the asphalt road to the right. The small road runs alongside the river, you pass over 2 small bridges with crash barriers both sides, after the 2nd bridge you pass a small wooded copse to the right with a ruin, after which is a small car parking area on the right, I will ringing in this area.

I have chosen this area for ease of access and also because the track to Libar is in such poor repair.

NOTE: With current high temperatures (unless there is a change) I will furl the nets by 11 am.

Hope to see you all there. Sorry for the late posting.

Thanks everyone for your great company and your interest. Enjoyed our weekend together. Thanks Frank for being such a good slave!

We caught a diverse number of species including a good number of Kingfisher (photo attached), Green Sandpiper and Western Olivaceous Warbler etc... really a satisfying weekend. Hope everyone enjoyed the experience.

Sounds as if you all had a great time and managed to attract the total population of Andalucian Kingfishers; no wonder nobody else could find a Martin Pescador all week-end!  Did anybody manage to get a group or activity photograph Peter?  If not, unless you say otherwise, I would like to illustrate the coming Monthly Mailing with your Kingfisher shot plus name of whoever took the actual picture.  I am not sure whether or not I recognise your delicate fingers in the pic.
