¡Muchas gracias!

Myself and my wife Luciana have joined the ABS and Luciana would like to attend the meeting. She will be travelling to and from the venue with our neighbours Jos and Jo-Anna Huisman.

Just a quickie to thank Stephen for a very special day lots to see and good people to see them with.  I think that this site is as good as Coto Donina which is on the other side of the river.  Hope the guys that stayed were able to see the imperial eagles.

Thank you very much Stephen for a super day yesterday. It was a beautiful hot sunny day, beautiful area, a huge amount of birds, great lunch and to cap it all we saw a clump of the beautiful autumn daffodil, Narcissus serotinus...and also a great view of the Mediterranean Chamaeleon both a first for me.
Thank you Stephen for leading the day and thank you Frank for being our chauffeur too.

24 October 2011

Wow, Steve - great day Saturday!

I thought I had connections but not, obviously as good a yours to get the promise of rain, winds, lightning, etc changed into a calm, clear and sunny day with lots of warmth so requiring a change back into shorts before we departed.  Great birding in great company and, I know, much appreciated by us all.  Lots of birds seen, now rapidly approaching 90 species as I receive little emails from all and sundry, and hope to complete the write-up for posting on the web-site via Peter by about the end of this week.  A dozen Marbled Duck lots of Ospreys and Harriers nevermind all the Spoonbills, Black Storks, Flamingos and waders - and we even had a great fish and chips lunch!  Well done you!

And new boy Denis O'Brien; if you are reading this can you send a quick email (Jos will let you know address if you do not have) so that I can send on some information about joining the ABS, etc.

Thanks Steve for a really great day. We thoroughly enjoyed it and it was well worth the trip from Murcia.

On the way down we called at Laguna Dulce, Fuente de Piedra  and Guadelhorce so as to make the journey even more worthwhile. And this afternoon (Wednesday) on the way home, called in again at Laguna Dulce. Bob had predicted the cranes would be coming soon and sure enough, as we sat in the hide, we saw a flock of 20 to 30 birds winging their way south - but it was only mid-day so they passed by and did not stop.

We went back to Algaida yesterday afternoon and after another superb menu del día in that same restaurant, and then saw that the marbled Duck were still around on the same pond.

Once again, thanks for a great day

Thanks everyone!

That was a really good day out and I must thank you all for your kindness and appreciation. The weather stayed sunny and warm the birds came right on cue (as did the Chameleon!) and we all had a happy, relaxed day down by 'the mighty river'!

Best wishes to one and all,

Stephen
