¡Muchas gracias!

Event: Members Field Meeting
Date: Saturday 22nd October 2011
Meeting Point: La Barca de Vejer Car Park at 0900 hrs and the other 'convoy' at the Car Park of IKEA outside Jerez at 1000hrs
Time: 09.00 am and 10.00 am (see above)

Leader for the day: Stephen Daly

Guadalquivir basin.
Eastern Cadiz and the 'Mighty River' (Arabic translation of the name)

I'd meet some members in La Barca de Vejer Car Park at 0900 hrs and the other 'convoy' at the Car Park of IKEA outside Jerez at 1000hrs.

From Jerez we'd visit Mesas de Asta, Trebujena for a coffee before going down to the Guadalquivir. There's also a chance when having coffee to make a quick visit to the local bodega (opposite) if folks wish to buy sherry etc (very good and cheap!).

Lunch would be at the Venta El Raspa at Algaida - cost around 10 Euros pre head with the best Spanish Fish and Chips around!

We'd visit lots of local sites, ponds, forest, salt-pans, mudflats, brackish marsh etc and river edge. Back to IKEA then return to La Barca.

Probably for the long-distance folks would want to use a hotel in Jerez. If anyone wishes accommodation in the Barbate/Vejer area I can arrange/recommend such for them.

Please post here if you are interested to attend the day. Also if you should require any recommendations for accommodation.

Non-members welcome at 25 Euros per person.

I know the area well, one of my favourite birdwatching areas in the whole of Spain. If you are starting near Trebujena, ill meet you on the river bank near the Cortijo de Adventus, and probably stay overnight in Sanlucar de Barrameda.

I'll be with you Steve and looking forward to once more visiting this exciting side of the Great River.  Shame on me, you got your visit posted before me and mine's the previous month.  Speak to you next week.

Would have loved to come but unfortunately a clash of weekends - we will be at a motorhome/caravan group rally on the opposite side of the country in Denia.

We have just joined the ABS and would love to be at the Guadalquivir meeting. Any idea what time the meeting will be finished as we still need to pick up people from Malaga airport early evening.
Please let me know.

Jos and Jo~Anna,

Welcome to the group and as none of the committee have replied to you yet, I will. My husband Peter is away at the moment and unable to do so.

Normally meetings can end at about 2pm for lunch and then sometimes some of the group go home and some carry on for another hour or two after lunch. It's entirely up to you. I hope this is useful.

Stephen,

Is Ikea easy to find, outside of Jerez? Janet, her friend Diane and myself are coming. Peter and Pieter are both away on trips abroad unfortunately.

How long will it take to get from Ronda to Ikea please as I haven't a clue where to go? Any help with roads to take will be appreciated.

Thanks

Looking forward to this field meeting because it is an area I do not know at all. I will be bringing a new member along. If anyone has a spare pair of bins that she could borrow for the day, please bring them. We are flying in from the UK with only 10 kg of hand luggage!

Hi Janet
I will be going and can bring a spare pair for you do you know if Elli will be coming?  Are you staying at your place in Ronda if so we could meet up and share cars ( why pollute more than we have to).  Give me a e-mail on my web site.
Brenda I will be going and if you can pick me up in Algodonales I know where Ikea is in Jerez.  Or I could pick you and the girls up.

Hi Folks,

Re the Guadalquivir day out on the 22nd of October:

As planned I will be leaving at 9am from La Barca de Vejer. Can we meet opposite Venta Pinto about 1km on the road to Barbate, the A393. I live close by so I will be happy to take anyone who'd like to come along in my mini-bus. I have eight other seats and would be happy to take others.

(Location maps: go to Google maps and type in for both 'La Barca de Vejer' and 'IKEA Jerez' and it will show you the locations - work out your own route accordingly. Google Maps also give distance and time the journey will take from where you are coming from). Some of you may take the motorway from Palmones-Los Barios-Jerez if coming from the Costa de Sol, therefore we'll see you at IKEA Jerez at 1000hrs.

Lunch will be taken out at a local restaurant around 1330 hrs

Steve Fletcher, can you meet us at IKEA, that would be easier than more cars. From IKEA I'll try and get the cars full up with passengers and reduce the number of vehicles.

I plan to head back to La Barca  to IKEA from there I'll take the A2000, doing a loop to Trebujena-Guadalquivir-Algaida (lunch)-Bonanza-Sanlucar de Barrameda and return via the A840 to the A4, A48 (E5) to La Barca de Vejer. Those going back to the IKEA meeting point will get there around 5pm and it'll be around 6pm for those going back to LaBarca (times approximately)

We can stop at Trebujena for a 'comfort stop', then head down to the big river.

Do PLEASE let me know by email if you'd like a lift. Send your info to stephenATandalucianguides.com   I will see your email straight away on my emails as I have lots of work on until then. Thanks...

Oh, and I do have a couple of spare pairs of bins Janet...

Stephen

Hi Steve

Jan and I will be coming after all. We will be parking our motorhome on the front at Chipiona by the beach immediately up river from the port.

I have arranged seats with Bob Wright for most of the day and, although he too is staying in Chipiona, will drive over to IKEA (you will see our little red SmartCar) and get picked up by him there. We are doing this in case he needs to nip off early in which case we will hope to get a lift back to IKEA with someone else at the end of your day.

We look forward to seeing you again,

Barrie and Jan Avis
