¡Muchas gracias!

My wife and I are new to this forum. We are in our sixties and rather lazy birders. We recently spent 17 days in Tarifa (April 23rd - May 11th). We hire a beachfront apartment and wait for the raptors to arrive. We have done this before with some success. This year very few birds and the only Honey Buzzards were in a group of about 100 raptors which passed in front of us on the evening of April 29th between 8 & 8.30pm. We understand a little about the effects of the wind and so depending on the direction patrolled between Punta Secreta and Bolonia with no sucess. We asked around but were not convinced about the strength of the wind answers we received. We have visited in several springs, in strong winds, and still found birds. Insights would be welcome. We still had a very good time with the magnificent arrival of the Swifts, the 200 Black terns which fed in the bay one evening and the four Lesser Crested Terns which were in the roost at lunchtime on Los Lances beach on Monday May 10th. We also enjoyed visiting our regular haunts such as La Janda.
We shall be back in September

Hi Laurie and welcome to the ABS Forum! During the time of your visit Honey Buzzard were tending to arrive in large numbers i.e. from the 29.04, but were seen in their biggest numbers arriving on the east coast!!! Many of the other raptors had arrived already, but I did have a few Black Kite, Short-toed and Booted Eagles over my patch in the Serrania de Ronda and Sierra de Grazalema.

Looks like we might see you here for the International Bird Fair at Tarifa in September? More info is on the following link:
