Hi all
I have just returned from the Osuna area and what a good site I was on my own so I could sit and stare into space and what did I see well, Collared Pratincole, Stone Curlew, Roller, Montagu’s Harrier which I nearly hit with the car on my way out of Osuna.  We will be meeting at the venta Puerta Palos which is 11Km south of Osuna on the A351 or it could be the A451 (A351 on map and A451 on road)it is the main road from Almargen to Osuna passing El Saucejo (again the map shows the road passing throu El Saucejo but it is the new road and bypasses quit a bit to the east) .  The time will be 10AM as the venta dose not open until then; we will be having the AGM and lunch in La Lantejuela.  I have a friend coming over closer to the date and I will go back up then and see if anything has changed.

I admit that this may be due to previously undiagnosed incipient senility but I can't work out what time we're meeting and where.

As I understand it, the AGM starts at 9.00 and is being held somewhere in La Lantejuela which is about 20 minutes to the northwest of Osuna. However, if I read this correctly, for the field trip we are due to meet at 10.00 at the Venta Puerta Palos which is 11 kms south of Osuna. For those coming from the south of Osuna, this looks like a fair bit of extra driving, including passing the venta where we're meeting at 10.00 on our way to the AGM which starts an hour earlier.

From the ABS website:
"We also plan our member’s AGM with a scheduled start 9:00am and elect new officers, before joining the field trip at 10:00am."

Yours faithfully
Confused of Montejaque

Hi Peeps
sorry about the confusion.  I have been looking for a venta which is, open on the Saturday, open at 9 o'clock and easy to find.  I have not been able to do this, I have been up to Osuna both on  Saturday and Sunday to find a venta which meets all of these criteria, but in June the venta close to the start of road we are going to drive along is closed on both Saturday and Sunday.  There are other ventas within the town but are not too big and are compacted to describe where they are.  So after much looking (and a phone call to Peter J) I decided to go to the Venta Puerta Palos to start the meeting at 10 o'clock as it opens at 10 in June.  Lunch will be in La Lantejuela after lunch we will hold the AGM at the same venue.
So the meeting will start at Venta Puerta Palos at 10 o'clock.  Drive along the back road from Osuna to La Lantejuela visiting several sites along the way.  Lunch at La Lantejuela followed by the AGM.  After the AMG time permitting check out some of the lugunas in the area or up to Marchena.
Hope this is clearer this time.

Frank, thanks very much for the clarification.

For those who are interested, last Saturday there were about 80 Greater Flamingos in the first laguna on the left as you drive northwards from Osuna to Ecija on the A-351.

1 June 2010

OK, so now we have some clarification until the next message!

June meeting:  Saturday 19 June
Where: Back road from Osuna to La Lantejuela
When:  10 am start at Venta Puerta Palos.
Later:  Lunch in La Lantejuela  FOLLOWED by AGM.

However, after all that I have just realised that I am in the UK from 16 to 22 June - actually birding in Norfolk on the day ion question - so, regretfully, I will have to miss out again.  Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out here on the eastern fringes of the region above lake Vinuela.

Field Meeting would be good for July Bob if you wouldn't mind to think about it around the region above Lake Vinuela?

Umm, okay Frank and Bob, what about the following:

June meeting: Saturday 19 June - Leader Frank Hair
Where: Back road from Osuna to Marchena
When: 10 am start at Venta Puerta Palos (see below for directions).
Later: Lunch in Marchena FOLLOWED by AGM.

June meeting will be at Osuna area to look for Bustards, Rollers, Orioles and Pratincoles.

The time will be 10.00am as the venta does not open until then; we will be having the AGM and lunch in Marchena or possibly La Lantejuela. I have a friend coming over closer to the date and I will go back up then and see if anything has changed. Frank Hair

Hi Peeps
Eric is over and we went up to this area on Saturday.  It was as good as the last time I visited.   Yes as Peter has suggested lunch in Marchena, we tried to find somewhere in La Lantejuela but they had there annual town picnic on the Friday the town was asleep.  A short list to wet your appetite.
Roller
Whiskered Tern
Gull-Billed Tern
Montagu’s Harrier
Booted Eagle
Lesser Kestrel
Short-Toed Eagle
Common Buzzard
Black-winged Kite
Little owl
Collared Pratincole
There were a lot more but these are the exciting ones, if not the most beautiful ones.  Hope to see lots of members there.  We could not see any Bustards but many eyes make for better looking.
