Hi All.

Peter has asked me to put this post up. There will be a field meeting on May 9th around Sierra de Loja, near the town of Loja in Granada Province. The meeting place will be on the lower car park of the Abades Service Station on the A92 Autovia heading towards Granada. The station is at km post 189 very very close (just after) to the Western exit for Loja and the start time will be 10:00.
The morning will be on the Sierra it's self and then a lunch stop in Venta del Raya, the afternoon will be in the wooded valley running along the eastern side of the Sierra and will be birds and Orchids.

All the best Mick Richardson.

PS: why does this message keep self correcting, it's dam annoying when you don't want it to!

Loja visit - 9 May
Presumably if we are meeting on the "lower service station," those travelling from Malaga/Antequera direction will need to go past the service station , come off and back on at the next exit to be able to access the meeting place.  Or am being just dumb?  In other words, is the service station on the Malaga  rather than Granada direction side of the motorway?

Hi Bob and All.

We are meeting on the Lower Car Park of the Adbades service station (turn right at first chance at the top of the slip road), which is the higher service area and it is on the A92 motorway heading towards Granada. The lower service area heading towards Malaga is call the Manzanil or something similar.

All the best Mick.

Hi All

Thanks very much to the members who came on what turned out to be a very wet and a hard birding day. I hope you still enjoyed it. There is a trip report on my blog site at www.lojawildlife.com

Thanks Mick.

A big thank you to Mick for organising the day and even though the weather was unkind, the day was an enjoyable one by all accounts. Shame I couldn't make it but worked called.

Thanks again Mick.

For anyone who's still interested at this late stage (absent from my post again) the official list of birds SEEN on the day, stands at 45. Those on Mick's blog plus a few he's missed off - Serin, Goldfinch, Linnet and leaving the lunch stop, Bob (didn't Chelsea do well?) spotted some Honey Buzzards passing over.
A big thank-you to Mick for succeeding in finding most of the target species on what was an awful day weather-wise. The highlight and a first for me, the superb Eagle Owl.  It was also rather nice to have the wildflower commentary as well, which was much appeciated by Alexandra and myself.
