Tony B, I've just read the end of the Laguna de piedra thread. Sorry about the confusion over the lift. Hope to see you at Olvera.

Difficult task to recapture the Dunnock, but will try ...
Alex will be next Saturday, Manolo Vega and myself.
Manolo is another ring in my group and very knowledgeable about the lives of common Bustards Lantejuela, he is a guide to the area.
See you in Zaframagón.

Fernando, I'm not sure how many people are intending to go and how many of them will check here before tomorrow or Sunday.  So I'm not convinced that postponing till Sunday is a good idea.  Eve and I are definitely not going tomorrow because of the weather forecast.  Perhaps postpone till Saturday 30th January?

Ellie.  Did you actually go to Ronda that day?

Hi Peeps
Well to day is very sunny up here hope it is like this tomorrow.  I dropped Eillen off at Malaga airport on Wednesday and stopped off at the laguna dulce only to find 49 Little bustards (tried and tried to find the fiftieth one with no joy) so if the weather is bad we could drive up there to see if they are still around along with a white headed duck.  My mobile number is 652552956 if anyone cannot find the esation de Olvera.

OK Peeps
I think we should still meet up at the estion de Olvera at 9.30/10 tomorrow and see how bad the weather is.  The penon is very exposed and if it is raining a lot then it is not worth going so we will go to the lugana dulce where there is a hide, we can also see the flamingos on the road to Malaga(200+on wed).  I will be bringing my big seven seater so I can take 6.  Hopefuly the rain will stay off until the afternoon.
Farnando drop me an e-mail if you are going out ringing on ether the 24 or 30 as I would like to come and meet you.
Farnando me deja caer un correo electrónico si usted salen sonando en el éter el 24 o 30 como apreciaría venir y reunirlo.

Good morning everyone. Once again the weather thwarted our efforts to join a field meeting. It was pouring down in Jerez at 8.15! I note from Fernando`s blog that he made a valiant effort to meet up with the group at 10 on the viaduct, despite the heavy rain. Presumably those who went to Olvera went on to see flamingos? Never mind, I`m sure we can arrange something with Fernando soon - I for one have never seen bird ringing. Así que otra vez será para comer el maravilloso chorizo de Coripe!

Hi Peeps
Well an eventful day for us that made it up to the estion.  When we arrived it was raining hard so we decided to drive up to the laguna dulce where at lest we could sit in the hide.  We were rewarded with a good number of little bustards (25), white headed ducks (3), black necked grebes (2), Pintail ducks(2) and a male hen harrier flew over the back of the lagnua and flushed up some of the little bustards and set the 4 hares that were boxing in the rain running around at an even more frantic pace.
After a few hours we set off to the laguna on the road to Malaga.  Here the rain worsened so we had to sit in the car. But the farmer has built a road and hard standing from here we could get close to the flamingos around 75M.  We watched the flamingos dancing and found a lesser flamingo amongst the 200+ birds.  On the way back to Olvera the weather picked up and we decided to go to Zaframagon .  When we arrived  the vultures did what they always do the as soon as the sun came out flew soured up in large numbers.  As we watched the vultures the 2 Bonelli’s Eagle which also live at the penon came into view and we all had a good sighting of them.  Total number of bird for the day was 32 not bad considering the rain.
I must say thanks to all that endured the rain to make this a good day if a bit wet.  Must go as my cough is not improving and I need to go back to bed, so sorry for any errors at my brain is still a bit fuzzy.                                                   Have fun Frank

Hi All,
I hearby award Comrade Franky the ABS Medal of Honour for dedication above & beyond the call of duty. On Saturday he turned out with a very nasty head cold, to lead four nutcases on a birding trip in the most terrible torrential rain. Well done Soldier, and thank you.
The said four nutcases- the Hird party & the Lancashire Lasses (Jan & I) had the excuse of staying the previous night in Ronda or we'd have been snug in our beds like the rest you lot. But monsoon or not, birding we went and Frank even found some hides for us to shiver in. (Frank take note- hot chocolate next time please) Then miraculously, after a welcome lunch of fresh wild asparagus tortillas, the rain stopped and we were able to walk to the Zamafragon vulture colony. Fortune favours the foolish, I think.
Now as the official list maker (I know, it's very sad) when I got home & drained my brains, I counted 36 species, which is only of interest because it is a higher number than that of the Lag de las Piedras trip on a nice bright day in Dec. Crazy eh?
Fernando- you owe me a Dunnock still.

Great to hear you all had a good time despite the weather. My apologies for not being able to attend and hope to see you all at Stephen Daly's bash during February (see event posted in this section). Thank you Frank for arranging the day and we all appreciate the effort.
